Owner Controlled Insurance Programs

Owner-Controlled Insurance is exactly that – owner controlled. This insurance is a way for owners on a construction project to control the price of the bids received by evaluating the contractors’ discrete costs to procure insurance and comparing those costs with its own quotes to secure the insurance. Owners may request that contractors bid the project with and without insurance quotes in order to determine the potential cost savings to the owner.

If the owner accepts OCIP, he or she is responsible for procuring all insurance under the contract. Many times, owner-controlled insurance reduces the cost of construction by reducing the contractor’s bid price to result in significant savings to the owner.

We have developed relationships with various producers involved in the administration of the Owner-Controlled Insurance Program who are available to assist you directly while implementing this process. Contract documents are adjusted to reflect the owner’s intent to participate in OCIP.
